Principal Architect Team Lead – AWS Cloud Development Operations

Job Summary:
We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Principal Architect Team Lead to join our dynamic engineering team, specializing in AWS Cloud Development operations, Linux, and Oracle Database management. This role will oversee a DevOps team while working closely with program-level management and application teams to deliver mission-critical solutions in a fast-paced, Agile environment.
As the Principal Architect Team Lead, you will drive the strategic direction for our cloud-based infrastructure, leveraging your expertise in AWS, Linux, and DevOps tools such as Ansible and Packer. You will manage a talented team of 6 engineers, guiding them through technical and operational challenges. Your leadership will ensure the success of deployment schedules, change management, and production environment stability. Your ability to manage tasks and complexities while using Agile methodologies will ensure that the team is on track and delivering value to our stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities:

  1. Cloud Development Operations:
    • Lead the design, development, and deployment of scalable solutions in an AWS Cloud environment.
    • Utilize AWS services, particularly focusing on Amazon Linux, for system infrastructure management.
    • Oversee and troubleshoot Oracle Database and application management on Linux-based systems.
    • Collaborate with DevOps engineers to automate infrastructure deployment and configuration using GitLab, Ansible, and Packer.
  2. Team Leadership:
    • Head a team of 6 engineers, ensuring their work aligns with both program goals and best practices.
    • Conduct regular performance reviews, provide mentorship, and ensure professional growth for all team members.
    • Assign and prioritize tasks, assess their complexity, and ensure timely delivery of all deliverables.
  3. Collaboration with Application Teams:
    • Work closely with two application teams, ensuring that deployments are scheduled and executed without disruptions to production environments.
    • Coordinate with the program-level management and control change board to manage deployment schedules and resolve conflicts.
    • Ensure alignment between engineering teams, application developers, and stakeholders for efficient project execution.
  4. Agile Methodology and Sprint Management:
    • Facilitate quarterly planning sessions, working with stakeholders to ensure all goals and priorities are clear and achievable.
    • Support Scrum activities, including daily stand-ups, sprint planning, and backlog grooming.
    • Ensure that all team members understand their responsibilities within sprints and contribute to delivering high-quality work on time.
  5. Technical Oversight:
    • Oversee and guide architectural decisions within the cloud infrastructure and automation tooling.
    • Manage complex technical tasks and provide hands-on support as needed, ensuring all solutions are both efficient and scalable.
    • Troubleshoot and resolve issues in production environments, using your expertise to minimize downtime and maintain optimal performance.
  6. Security and Compliance:
    • Ensure all solutions are developed and deployed in accordance with security best practices and compliance standards.
    • Maintain and enforce strict adherence to clearance requirements, including handling sensitive data in a secure manner.
Required Qualifications:
  • Experience & Skills:
    • Strong experience in AWS Cloud Development, including services like EC2, S3, Lambda, and RDS.
    • Extensive experience with Linux systems, particularly Amazon Linux, and Oracle Database management.
    • Proficiency in DevOps practices, using tools like GitLab, Ansible, and Packer for automation and configuration management.
    • Solid understanding of Agile methodologies, particularly within a SaFe framework, and experience as a Scrum Master.
    • Ability to manage and lead a cross-functional team, ensuring clear task assignments, productivity, and alignment with strategic objectives.
    • Proven ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Clearance:
    • Must hold an active Top Secret (TS) clearance with an FBI background check.
  • Education & Certifications:
    • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
    • Relevant certifications (e.g., AWS Certified Solutions Architect, Certified ScrumMaster, etc.) are preferred but not required.
